Slapathon

Slapathon

It's been a long winter, but we're oh so close to riding season! We need your help to get the Driving Range ready. The only way we can open trails is to ensure every berm and feature have been raked and slapped! This vital spring maintenance ensures a long season of riding great trails.

There are over 50 berms to be slapped into shape at the driving range. It takes one person nearly two hours to rake and slap a person-height berm. That means 100 volunteer hours (or 25 people for four hours) to complete our mission!

To make this slapping mission fun, we've decided to turn it into a contest. SLAP-A-THON.

Volunteers will form teams of two and compete to slap berms for prizes!

RMT Trail bosses will be on the lookout for:

⁃ The crispest berm (perfect edges, smooth transitions, and meticulous work)
⁃ Fastest berm: (self timed, but must be approved "completed" by a trail boss)
⁃ Most berms completed by a team (self reported)
⁃ biggest glow-up (who started with the worst berm and made it the best?)
⁃ Most slaps in 1 minute (we'll have step-counters to attach to shovels!

- The Spirit of Slap Award (who brings the most stoke!)

Be sure to take pictures of your berms before and after.

If you've never raked and slapped before, we'll do a quick demonstration on best practices and techniques. All are welcome to come learn and slap!

At the end of the day we'll have a cookout with great food, beverages, and prizes!

Maple Wind Trail Day

Join us at Maple Wind Farm this week! We could use hands to help with dirt work on the final connector trail — linking the farm store to the main loop. This is the last piece of the initial network, and we’re almost there!

Park on the left side of the access drive (near the old box truck and the new shed) and carpool if you can! Please let Bec know if you plan to be there so we know who’s joining!

Bring water, bug spray, boots and tools if you have them. No experience or tools needed! There are plenty of leaders to show you the ropes and it’s all about having fun and being out on the trails together.

See you soon!

Richard Tom Foundation - Richard's Ride

Richard’s Ride has something for everyone: from short family rides, to mountain bike trail rides, to road rides from 5 to 70 miles. The goal of this event is to bring the community together to celebrate an enthusiasm for cycling and all that it adds to our lives. You don’t have to regularly cycle to feel included in this event, we welcome those who are interested in trying something new and also provide something fun and challenging for those who consider themselves to be an avid cyclist! The first annual Richard’s Ride was held in May 2016 starting at Cochran’s Ski Area in Richmond Vermont and has quickly become a spring tradition. We ask you to come join us to bring together old friends and new friends for smiles, camaraderie, and cycling.
